Redemption at Home

The Jumbos were back in action this weekend, as they kicked of their spring campaign with games against the Lyndon State Hornets and the WPI Engineers. On Friday, Tufts Trekked up to Lyndonville, VT to take on the offensively loaded Hornets. Despite an early attempt to trap Lyndon and slow the game down, the game quickly turned into a shootout. The Jumbos put in a solid effort for much of the game, and kept pace with the scoring of the hornets, leaving themselves trailing 6-5 with 5 minutes to go. Disaster struck when a breakaway tripping call also resulted in a goal, which was followed by another Tufts penalty. This left the Jumbos down by two goals and two men with under five to play. At this point, the odds became insurmountable, as the Hornets tacked on another three in the waning minutes to win 10-5. A disappointed Jumbos squad looked to regroup Saturday against WPI. Hosting league rivals WPI at home, the Jumbos battled in a back-and-forth contest which resulted in a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation. The penalty-ridden overtime period saw the Jumbos pull through with a last-minute goal and win the game 3-2. The Jumbos will finish up their regular season with a home game against the Rhode Island College Anchormen, in which they look to build some momentum heading into the playoffs.
