Home Opener: 11/1/10

The Jumbos opened the Home portion of their schedule this weekend, with back to back games against the US Coast Guard Academy and St. Anselm College. Saturday's matchup against the USCGA Bears was reminiscent of the first game these two played. The Bears showed remarkable fortitude, but were ultimately overmatched by a more skilled Jumbo squad. Tufts notched 8 goals in the outing, spreading the scoring around, as the entire bench got involved. Mikey Stanzler came in to relieve starting goaltender Julian Bloom in the third, and helped the Jumbos hang on as the Bears fought to climb back into the game. Thanks to a couple of key saves, the Jumbos were able to hang on for an 8-4 win, and two more all-important league points. Sunday proved to be a tougher test, as Tufts played a St. Anselm squad that was big, strong, and skilled. Tired from the night before, the Jumbos showed some defensive weaknesses, which St. Anselm capitalized on without remorse. Thanks to some clutch scoring, and an excellent game by Tyler Wilson and goalie Dan Frey, the Jumbos were able to keep the game within reach through two periods. In the third, however, the relentless attack of St. Anselm put up four unanswered goals on way to an 11-5 victory. This week, Tufts prepares for tough games against Umass Lowell, and Divison Rival Daniel Webster College.
